A deep-dive into the inspiration behind Timberline Ridge — our darkest, most uncompromising blend.
There's a place on every mountain where the trees stop growing tall.
Not because the soil gives out. Not because the rock takes over. But because the wind — relentless, brutal, indifferent — simply won't allow it. At the treeline, where alpine meets arctic, the trees that survive don't do so by standing straight. They survive by twisting.
Botanists call it Krummholz — a German word meaning "crooked wood." These stunted, gnarled conifers grow nearly horizontal, pressed low against the earth by decades of punishing gusts and ice-laden storms. They are ancient. They are scarred. And they are, without question, the toughest living things on the mountain.
We thought about them a lot when we crafted Timberline Ridge.
The Altitude That Inspired the Blend
Most coffee is designed for comfort. For the warm kitchen, the slow morning, the unhurried cup. Timberline Ridge was designed for something else entirely.
It was designed for the 4:30 AM alarm. For the headlamp clicking on in the dark. For the moment you lace your boots before the trailhead even exists in the light. For the climbers, the ridge-walkers, the pre-dawn faithful who know that the hardest part of any ascent isn't the summit — it's leaving the warmth behind.
We wanted a roast that matched that moment. Dark. Bold. Unapologetic. A coffee that doesn't ease you into the day — it launches you into it.
What Drives a Tree to Twist?
Krummholz trees don't choose their shape. They're shaped by pressure — by wind that never stops, by cold that never fully relents, by seasons that are more winter than not. And yet they persist. Year after year, century after century, they hold the line at the edge of what's survivable.
There's something in that we recognize.
Because the people who climb to the treeline — who push past the comfortable elevation where most turn back — they're shaped by pressure too. By early mornings stacked on early mornings. By the discipline of showing up when the weather is bad and the trail is steep and the summit is still hours away.
Timberline Ridge is their coffee. Dark-roasted to the edge of bold, with a depth that doesn't fade halfway through the climb.
The Roast
Timberline Ridge is our heaviest, most full-bodied blend — roasted dark to bring out a rich, smoky depth with low acidity and a long, warming finish. Notes of dark chocolate, charred cedar, and a whisper of alpine air.
It's not a subtle cup. It was never meant to be.
Brew it strong. Drink it before the sun comes up. Then go find your treeline.
For the Pre-Dawn Faithful
Whether you're summiting a peak, opening the shop before anyone else, or simply fighting your way through a hard season — Timberline Ridge was roasted for the moments that require more than ordinary coffee.
The trees at the treeline didn't get twisted by accident. They got twisted by showing up, every single day, in conditions that would break anything less committed.
We think that's worth honoring in every cup.
Timberline Ridge — Dark Roast. Full Body. No Apologies.
